PTC Web Desk: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has registered a disproportionate assets case against former Punjab DIG Harcharan Singh Bhullar. The case was lodged on Wednesday based on a complaint filed by Inspector Sonal Mishra of CBI, Chandigarh. The investigation has been assigned to CBI officer Kuldeep Singh.

According to the complaint, Bhullar, in connivance with unknown persons, accumulated assets far beyond his known sources of income. He failed to provide a satisfactory explanation for the wealth he possessed.

Bhullar was arrested on October 16 along with middleman Krishanu Sharda in a bribery case and is currently lodged in Burail Jail, Chandigarh. On Wednesday, the CBI obtained a nine-day remand of Krishnu, just two days before the completion of Bhullar’s 14-day judicial custody, which is set to end on October 31, when he will be produced in court.

The bribery case was initiated following a complaint filed on October 11 by Mandi Gobindgarh businessman Aakash Batta, with a formal report registered on October 15. During a CBI trap operation, middleman Krishanu was caught red-handed accepting Rs 5 lakh as a bribe from the complainant on behalf of Bhullar. Subsequently, both Bhullar and Krishanu were arrested for demanding and accepting illegal gratification.

Following the arrests, the CBI conducted searches at Bhullar’s residence in Chandigarh on October 16 and 17. Investigators recovered Rs 7.36 crore in cash, gold and silver jewellery worth Rs 2.32 crore and 26 luxury branded watches.

The CBI also found property documents linked to Bhullar and his family, including two houses in Chandigarh (Sectors 40-B and 39), and approximately 150 acres of land spread across Mohali, Hoshiarpur, and Ludhiana. These properties are registered under the names of Harcharan Singh Bhullar, his wife Tejinder Kaur Bhullar, son Gurpratap Singh Bhullar, daughter Tejkiran Kaur Bhullar, and others. The family also owns several luxury vehicles, including Mercedes, Audi, Innova, and Fortuner.

The assets recovered during searches, cash, jewellery, luxury goods, cars and bank balances, far exceed his declared income.
