Harsimrat Kaur Badal shares video highlighting open drug trade in Bathinda; watch
PTC Web Desk: Bathinda MP and senior Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) leader Harsimrat Kaur Badal has accused the police and civil administration of failing to control the drug menace in the city. In a video shared on her official social media page, Harsimrat Kaur Badal alleged that narcotics are being openly sold in Bathinda from morning till evening.
The footage purportedly shows individuals engaged in the exchange of suspected narcotic substances in a public area. She claimed that despite repeated assurances, the police have been unable to effectively curb the supply of drugs in the region.
Targeting Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, the former Union Minister criticised the state government’s campaign against drugs. She said instead of spending public money on rallies and promotional drives under the banner of a “war against drugs,” the government should focus on ground-level enforcement. She further stated that if the Chief Minister is unable to fulfil his responsibility, he should step down.
Meanwhile, nearly 12 hours after the video surfaced, the Bathinda police claimed to have initiated action. According to officials, the location seen in the viral video has been identified as Machhi Market Chowk in the city. Police officials claim individuals visible in the footage have been identified and some have been taken into custody. Legal proceedings have been initiated in connection with the matter.
