Law and order collapse in Punjab: Daylight firing at Banga bus stand leaves five critically injured
PTC Web Desk: Panic gripped the Banga bus stand in Punjab on Monday after unidentified assailants allegedly opened fire in broad daylight on a Scorpio vehicle, leaving five occupants critically injured. The attackers, travelling in an i20 car, managed to escape immediately after the incident.
According to sources, the i20 car had been trailing the Scorpio near the Banga city police station. As both vehicles reached the bus stand area, the assailants fired multiple rounds at close range. Preliminary reports suggest that around 16–17 bullets hit the Scorpio. All five young men travelling in the vehicle sustained bullet injuries.
The injured were initially rushed to Guru Nanak Mission Hospital. However, due to their critical condition, they were referred to DMC Hospital, Ludhiana.
The police reached the spot soon after receiving alerts from locals and cordoned off the area. The bullet-riddled Scorpio was seized for forensic examination. Police officials have begun questioning nearby residents and shopkeepers to gather further details. CCTV footage from the locality is also being examined to trace the attackers.
Rakesh, in-charge of the Banga city police station, said the exact number of shots fired was yet to be determined. He added that efforts were underway to identify the injured through hospital records and verify how many people were present in both vehicles at the time of the incident. The motive behind the firing remains unknown.
A case has been registered, and police teams are conducting raids to trace the suspects.
