Lawyer shot at in broad daylight in Amritsar’s Jandiala Guru; probe underway
PTC Web Desk: A lawyer was critically injured after unidentified assailants allegedly opened fire on him in Jandiala Guru, Amritsar district, on Monday morning. The victim, identified as Lakhwinder Singh, was en route to the Amritsar court from his residence when the incident occurred.
According to initial reports, three assailants—lying in wait—intercepted Lakhwinder Singh’s vehicle and fired multiple rounds at him indiscriminately. He sustained serious injuries, including three bullet wounds to his arm, and was rushed to a local hospital in Amritsar. His condition remains critical.
The lawyer’s brother, a former village sarpanch, said Lakhwinder had left early in the morning due to a heavy caseload in court. He claimed that he had no inkling of any threat. Suddenly, three youths surrounded his car and began firing. His vehicle crashed into nearby closed shops after the attack.
The Jandiala police also reached the crime scene shortly after the incident and have launched an investigation. Initial findings suggest the attack was a premeditated conspiracy. However, no motive such as personal enmity or extortion has been established so far.
The police are scanning CCTV footage from the area to identify the attackers. “We are working on several leads and expect to arrest the culprits soon,” said DSP Ravinder Singh of Jandiala. Investigation is underway.
