Punjab govt to not bear expenses incurred on Mukhtar Ansari, says CM Bhagwant Mann

Chandigarh, July 2: Chandigarh, July 2: Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann took to Twitter on Sunday and clarified the air around the payment of expenses incurred on account of keeping Uttar Pradesh gangster Mukhtar Ansari in Punjab jail and for arguing his case in the Supreme Court.

He stated that the Rs 55 lakh fees will not be borne by the state government's treasury.


"The money will be recovered from then-Home Minister Captain Amarinder Singh and Jail Minister Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa," Mann stated on Twitter. He further stated that if they do not pay, their pension and other government benefits will be cancelled.

Gangster Mukhtar Ansari is currently serving a life sentence in the 32-year-old Awadesh Narain murder case in the Punjab Central Jail. The quantum of punishment was announced by the MP/MLA court in Varanasi.

Awadhesh Rai, a Congress leader and former MLA Ajay Rai's brother, was shot dead outside Ajay's house in Varanasi on August 3, 1991. Mukhtar Ansari and others have been charged in the matter.
