Operation Sindoor: Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh and Himachal on high alert; flights suspended until further notice
PTC Web Desk: In a powerful and precise military response to the Pahalgam Terror Attack, India carried out an air strike named Operation Sindoor against terror camps in Pakistan during the early hours of Tuesday, between 1:05 AM and 1:30 AM. According to official sources, over 100 terrorists were neutralised across nine terror launchpads.
In the aftermath of the strike, high alert has been issued across Punjab, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, and Chandigarh.
Key developments
Ambala, Haryana, has been placed on high alert with a ban on drone operations. The Railway Protection Force (RPF) is conducting intensive security checks at Ambala Cantt. The Haryana Congress has cancelled all events under its 'Save the Constitution' rally series.
In Punjab, schools in five border districts—Amritsar, Gurdaspur, Pathankot, Fazilka, and Ferozepur—have been closed until further notice. The Kartarpur Corridor has been temporarily shut down following escalated tensions.
Punjab CM Bhagwant Mann and AAP chief Arvind Kejriwal have cancelled scheduled visits to Nawanshahr and Jalandhar. All 22 flights from Amritsar Airport have been cancelled, and the airport will remain shut until 5:30 PM on May 10.
Chandigarh Airport has also suspended all flight operations until further notice due to changing airspace conditions.
In Himachal Pradesh, CM Sukhvinder Sukhu has cancelled his tour and convened a high-level security meeting in Shimla. Security has been heightened at major tourist destinations.
The Indian Air Force's strategic operation comes in response to the April 22 terrorist attack in Pahalgam, where 26 civilians (25 Indians and 1 Nepali) were brutally killed by Pakistan-backed LeT terrorists.
