Patiala medical student murder: A medical student was found murdered at his paying guest accommodation in Patiala’s New Lal Bagh Colony. The incident reportedly took place on Sunday night, while the matter came to light the following day after locals informed the police.

The deceased has been identified as Kamal Kumar, a resident of Bareta in Mansa district, who had been staying in the city for his studies.

Police officials said the victim’s body was discovered lying in a pool of blood inside the room. Preliminary examination revealed multiple injuries on his head caused by a sharp-edged weapon.

Father says son spoke to family hours before incident

According to family members, Kamal had spoken to his father over the phone around 10 pm on Sunday night. His father stated that the student appeared normal during the conversation and had informed the family that he had finished dinner before going to sleep.

The family was later informed by police after the body was recovered from the PG accommodation.

Police suspect role of friend staying with victim

During the investigation, the police learnt that a youth identified as Mohit, known to the victim, had reportedly come to stay with him a day before the murder.

Officials suspect his involvement in the case as he has been missing since the incident. CCTV footage collected from nearby cameras allegedly shows the suspect leaving the area after the crime.

Police teams have launched raids to trace the accused and are examining all possible angles linked to the murder.

The body was shifted to Rajindra Medical College for postmortem examination. Forensic teams also inspected the crime scene and gathered evidence from the room.

Police officials said further action would be taken after the postmortem report and detailed investigation findings are received.
