Punjab: 3 Congress rebels get 'Y' category security
PTC News Desk: The Punjab Congress rebels, two of whom have recently joined the BJP, have been given VIP security, government sources stated on Thursday. According to sources, the central government provided security cover for three influential leaders in the state: Vikramjit Chaudhary, Karamjit Kaur Chaudhary, and Tajinder Singh Bittu.
These have been given 'Y' category Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) security cover only in Punjab after the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) issued an order based on the Intelligence Bureau's most recent threat analysis report.
Vikramjit Chaudhary
The decision by the MHA comes after the Congress suspended Phillaur MLA Vikramjit Chaudhary on Wednesday for alleged anti-party conduct. Vikramjit, who had been fighting for the ticket, resigned as the party's chief whip in the Punjab Vidhan Sabha last week.
Karamjit Kaur Chaudhary
Vikramjit's mother, Karamjit Kaur Chaudhary, who unsuccessfully ran for the Jalandhar Lok Sabha seat last year, severed connections with the Congress and joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on April 20. She has also been granted CRPF 'Y' security cover in Punjab.
Tajinder Singh Bittu
Bittu is Punjab's third influential leader to get 'Y' category security cover from the CRPF. Last Monday, the leader resigned as Secretary-in-Charge of Himachal Pradesh for the All India Congress Committee (AICC) and the primary membership in the Congress party.
Bittu later joined the BJP at its headquarters in Delhi on April 20, in the presence of Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw and party general secretary Vinod Tawde.
