Punjab: Amid dense fog and zero visibility, school reopens for classes 8-12

 Chandigarh, January 9: Amid freezing temperature across the state, students of class 8 to 12 are expected to resume school from today onwards. Earlier, Punjab government had extended winter break across all the age groups but in the recent announcement class 8-12 students were not given any relief. The opening hours of all schools will be from 10 am to 3 pm. Reportedly, the junior classes are likely to begin from January 16 onwards.

Meanwhile, several Punjab districts recorded temperatures below 5 degrees. Bathinda  max 11.6  degree Celsius min 3.4 degree Celsius, Nawanshahr  max 9.9 degree Celsius min 3.9 degree Celsius,  Fatehgarh Sahib  max 13.8   degree Celsius min 3.7 degree Celsius,  Muktsar  max 11.1  degree Celsius min 3.8  degree Celsius, Ropar  max 12.1 degree Celsius  min 3.3 degree Celsius, Patiala  max 14.5 degree Celsius  4.3 min degree Celsius. 

In National capital, Delhi winter break in private school has been extended till January 15. 

The Directorate of Education (DOE) of Delhi Government gave this information by issuing a circular. The circular said, "In continuation of the previous circular of DOE, all private schools in Delhi are advised to remain closed till January 15, 2023 in view of the ongoing cold wave in the city."

Notably, there was spell of severe cold wave in Delhi on Sunday as well. The Safdarjung observatory, the main center of the city, recorded a minimum temperature of 1.9 degrees Celsius, the lowest in January in two years. Normal life has been affected due to severe cold in Delhi. People have been advised not to leave the house early in the morning and late in the evening.
