High Court orders Punjab Govt to curb illegal immigration within a month
PTC Web Desk: The Punjab and Haryana High Court has directed the Punjab Government to take effective measures to curb illegal immigration within a month. The order came in response to a petition filed by Advocate Kanwal Pahul Singh, highlighting the increasing cases of deportation of Punjabis from the United States.
The Bench instructed the Punjab Government to act against fraudulent travel agents and take decisive steps to stop illegal immigration through the 'donkey route' from Punjab to the US. The court also advised the petitioner to submit his complaint to the government, which must respond within 30 days. The petition was subsequently disposed of.
The petition called for immigration check posts in every district of Punjab to ensure a streamlined and fraud-free process for overseas travel. It demanded strict action against fraudulent travel agents exploiting people seeking to go abroad. The plea also sought an updated list of certified recruiting agents to safeguard potential immigrants from scams.
During the hearing, the Punjab Government's counsel informed the Punjab and Haryana High Court that out of 104 people deported from the US, 32 were from Punjab, 32 from Haryana, and the rest from other states. Central government counsel Dheeraj Jain explained that these individuals initially travelled to Europe on student or tourist visas and then illegally entered the US.
The court recommended the petitioner file his complaint with the appropriate authorities and concluded the case.
