Punjab CM's technical advisor Ravi Chawla resigns over govt flags irregularities
PTC News Desk: Following termination of PSPCL director Harjit Singh, Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann's technical advisor, Ravi Chawla has resigned. He was appointed to vet tenders of buildings and roads worth over Rs 2.50 crore.
Chawla, who was appointed as Technical Advisor to the Chief Minister in June 2024 after retiring as chief engineer, was reportedly asked by a senior government official to resign. Sources said Chawla submitted his resignation on Wednesday, a gazetted holiday for Guru Nanak Dev’s Gurpurab, and it was accepted the same day.
Soon after, the government is said to have directed administrative secretaries of various departments to handle the vetting process themselves. According to officials, several secretaries had complained that Chawla was holding up too many files, causing delays in developmental projects.
Authorities confirmed that multiple complaints were received about pending files under his charge, which had slowed down the execution of works.
The position of Technical Advisor was first created by former Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal in 2007 to monitor tenders worth over ₹2.5 crore. No tender exceeding that amount could be issued without approval from the Technical Advisor, who had direct access to the Chief Minister.
