Punjab floods 2025: The Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) has stepped forward with significant aid for flood-affected areas across Punjab. SGPC president Advocate Harjinder Singh Dhami has announced a Rs 2 crore flood relief fund, while also urging the government to provide a compensation of Rs 50,000 per acre to farmers whose crops have been devastated.

During a religious gathering at Sri Kesgarh Sahib, organised to commemorate the birth anniversary of Baba Jeevan Singh Ji, thousands of devotees participated in the special events. Baba Jeevan Singh Ji, a revered Sikh warrior, is remembered for carrying the sacred head of Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji with utmost devotion to Anandpur Sahib.

Advocate Dhami said the recent floods had severely impacted regions stretching from Pathankot to Sultanpur Lodhi. Thousands of acres of crops were destroyed, homes submerged, and livestock lost. Relief work had already begun under SGPC’s direction, with gurdwara managers instructed to promptly meet the needs of affected people.

Out of the Rs 2 crore relief fund raised by SGPC staff, the first installment of Rs 1 crore has already been released, with the second installment to follow in the coming days. Additionally, many donors from India and abroad have contributed to the relief efforts.

To prevent the outbreak of diseases in flood-hit regions, Guru Ramdas Medical University has been providing ambulance services and medicines. Children are also being supplied with dry milk, mosquito nets, and other daily essentials to ensure no family faces shortages during this crisis.

Criticising the authorities, Advocate Dhami said the situation could have been avoided if water had been released from dams in time. He strongly demanded that the government announce at least Rs 50,000 per acre as compensation to farmers so that they can restart their livelihoods. Advocate Dhami also appealed to the Sikh community and well-wishers to contribute generously towards ongoing relief efforts.
