The Punjab government has announced Rs 20,000 per acre compensation for crops destroyed due to floods and Rs 4 lakh compensation for the kin of deceased.

Punjab government's nod to 'Jisda Khet Usdi Ret' policy, Rs 4 lakh compensation for kin of deceased

PTC News Desk: Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann on Monday attended Cabinet meeting virtually from his hospital room, days after being admitted on September 5. After the meeting, he released a video and said, "Currently I am admitted in the hospital and recovering day by day. As soon as I get discharged from hospital, I will come and meet everybody."


Key decisions taken during cabinet meeting:

Nod to 'Jiska Khet Uski Ret' policy

With the government's nod to 'Jida Khet Usdi Ret Policy', the farmers will be allowed to mine the silt accumulated in their agricultural fields and sell it in the market without getting environment clearance.

Rs 4 lakh compensation for families of deceased

The government has announced a compensation of Rs 4 lakh for the families of the deceased who lost their lived in the devastating floods. Currently the death toll stands 46.

Compensation of Rs 20,000 per acre

A compensation of Rs 20,000 per acre will be given for the loss of crops. Compensation cheques will be given directly to the farmers.

Installment or interest on loans waived up to 6 months

Flood-affected people who are seeking loans will be exempted from paying interest rate or installments for up to six months.

Medical supplies and camps to be established

To prevent water-borne diseases, fogging machines will be installed in about 1700 villages and 300 urban areas. Clinics will be set up in every village and a team of doctors will be deployed accompanied by sufficient medical supplies and treatment available to people. 

Repair of schools, colleges and power infrastructure:

The damaged caused by floods to all the educational institutions and power infrastructure will be repaired effective immediately.
