Punjab govt okays recruitment of 3,400 constables, 1,600 promotions in police force
PTC Web Desk: The Punjab government has announced the recruitment of 3,400 new constables in the state police force. Additionally, 1,600 posts will be filled through promotions, including 150 Inspectors, 450 Sub-Inspectors (SIs), and 1,000 Assistant Sub-Inspectors (ASIs).
Apart from this, the government has also planned to gradually fill 4,500 more posts across districts. Punjab DGP Gaurav Yadav has issued directives to expedite the recruitment process, confirming that it will begin soon. He also held an online meeting with senior police officials to chalk out the strategy.
The DGP said, “Corruption will not be tolerated. Any police personnel caught indulging in corrupt practices will face strict action.” He further directed officials to ensure peace during the festive season and to intensify crackdowns on gangsters, drug traffickers, and anti-social elements.
On average, the Punjab Police recruits around 1,800 personnel every year. The process usually begins in January, involving a written test followed by physical examinations. Selected candidates are then sent for training, with efforts made to induct them into the force before the next January. This cycle has been consistently followed for the past three years.
With thousands of vacancies set to be filled from constable to inspector level, the Punjab Police is preparing for one of its largest recruitment drives in recent years.
