Punjab: Ludhiana woman falls victim to OLX scam, loses thousands of rupees
Ludhiana, October 20: In a distressing incident, a woman from Ludhiana in Punjab fell prey to a fraudulent scheme via OLX , resulting in a significant financial loss running into thousands of rupees.
As per information, the woman, aiming to sell a dress on the OLX platform, listed it for Rs 5,000. Soon after, an interested buyer contacted her, expressing a keen interest in purchasing the dress. The seemingly genuine buyer initiated contact through a cellphone conversation and professed a strong desire to acquire the garment.
However, the situation took a dark turn when the woman was asked to scan a specific code using her Paytm scanner page to facilitate the payment.
Trustingly, the woman complied with the supposed buyer's instructions and scanned the provided code via the Paytm scanner. To her utter shock and dismay, the entire balance from her bank account was swiftly debited, leaving her with empty pockets.
Following the incident, the woman promptly reported the fraudulent scheme to the relevant authorities, who have initiated an investigation to track down the culprits responsible for this cybercrime.
This incident highlights the growing prevalence of scams on online platforms, which continue to victimise unsuspecting individuals.
