Punjab: Amid deportation row, Ajnala resident on way to US via 'dunki' route dies of heart attack in Guatemala

PTC News Desk: A man from Punjab died of cardiac arrest in Guatemala while he was on his way to US via infamous 'dunki' route. The development follows days after US deported 104 Indian for sneaking into US illegaly. 


The deceased has been identified as Gurpreet Singh, a native of border town of Ramdass in Ajnala. He reportedly left his home around three months ago in a bid to settle down in the US after he was lured by travel agent who was paid Rs 36 lakhs and ensured his facilitation to the US.

Punjab’s NRI Affairs Minister, Kuldeep Singh Dhaliwal visited the family and offered his condolences. He also assured the family to that the government is working to bring Singh's body back to Punjab. He also said that instead of spending large sums on illegal immigration, young people could use the money to start businesses in the state.
