In her complaint to the police, Savita, mother of the deceased, said after the death of her first husband, she got married to Vivekananda Mandal alias Sappu Mandal. She had son Piyush (20) from her first husband, who lived with her. He used to quarrel with his stepfather. In a fit of rage, her husband killed him.
She alleged that Piyush had been missing since December 5. When she asked her husband about his absence, he misled her every time. However, she got suspicious and went to the roof of their rented accomodation, where she found a drum from which a foul smell was coming. She informed her neighbours, who broke open the drum. Piyush's decomposed body was found inside it with hands and feet tied.
