Punjab reports confirmed 151 cases of Dengue, 25 Chikungunya infections
PTC News Desk: Punjab has recorded 151 confirmed dengue cases and 11,857 suspected ones. Additionally, 25 cases of Chikungunya have also been reported, with 16 of them alone from Amritsar. In response, the government has intensified its fight against mosquito-borne illnesses by launching a door-to-door awareness and inspection drive in Patiala.
Under the banner of “Har Shukarvaar, Dengue Te Vaar,” the campaign focuses on engaging communities in identifying and removing mosquito breeding sites.
On Friday, Health and Family Welfare Minister Balbir Singh visited several areas in Patiala, including Ranjit Nagar and Dashmesh Nagar. During the inspections, mosquito larvae were found in water-filled containers kept for birds and stray animals.
The minister also surveyed homes and surrounding plots, noting that vacant lots and car wash centres have become major breeding grounds. “Fumigation plays a role, but our strongest tool against dengue is public awareness and community involvement,” he stated.
In terms of confirmed dengue cases by district, Kapurthala leads with 26 cases, followed by SAS Nagar (24), Faridkot (18), Tarn Taran (17), and both Amritsar and Hoshiarpur with 12 cases each.
