Punjab shocker: AAP sarpanch shot dead in broad daylight at marriage palace in Amritsar
PTC News Desk: In a shocking daylight incident, a sitting sarpanch of the Aam Aadmi Party was shot dead at a resort in Amritsar. Jarmal Singh, the sarpanch of village Valtoha in Tarn Taran district, had come to the resort to attend a wedding.
According to the information, the attackers had come to the venue as attendees of the wedding from Dinanagar and used the venue as a cover to carry execute the crime.
Reportedly two unidentified assailants shot Jarmal Singh in the head and fled the scene. He was immediately rushed to the hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.
The family said they had been receiving threats from gangsters, who were demanding extortion money. A case regarding these threats had earlier been registered by the sarpanch at the Valtoha police station. The family said this was not a case of personal rivalry, but that gangsters had been threatening him, which could be the reason behind the murder.
As soon as police received information about the shooting, they rushed to the resort and began their investigation. People who attended the wedding were questioned. Police suspect that the sarpanch was being followed. According to the investigation, he had been attacked three times in the past as well.
