PTC Web Desk: A shocking case of child abuse has emerged from Patiala, Punjab, where a DJ dancer has been accused of subjecting her 10-year-old adopted son to severe torture. The accused, identified as Manni Sharma, had adopted the child a year ago after moving from Faridkot to Patiala. Initially promising to care for him like a mother, she later started abusing him physically and mentally.

According to the police investigation, Manni Sharma did not enroll the child in school and instead forced him to do household chores. If he failed to complete the tasks, she allegedly beat him with a belt. The situation worsened when she burned the child's cheek with a hot iron in response to neighbors complaining about her dog barking.

In another horrifying incident, she allegedly slammed the child's head against a wall while beating him, causing serious injuries. Shockingly, she did not seek any medical help for him.

Upon learning about the case, members of Apna Farz Sewa Society immediately intervened and admitted the child to Rajindra Hospital for treatment. According to Satpal Singh, the society’s chief sevadar, Manni Sharma would often lock the child in a balcony or a room for two days at a time while she went out for work as a DJ dancer.

Police officials stated that Manni Sharma had been living in Patiala for the past five years. After separating from her husband, she moved in with her parents. Besides working as a DJ dancer, she also ran a beauty parlour during the off-season.

Investigating Officer Kuldeep Singh confirmed that she has been arrested, and the police are probing whether anyone else was involved in the abuse.

Child rights panel takes notice

Following the incident, the Chairman of the Child Rights Commission visited Rajindra Hospital to meet the victim. He assured that a thorough investigation would be conducted into the matter.

Additionally, the Social Welfare Department has issued a notice seeking a complete report on the case. The authorities have also taken responsibility for the child’s education and protection, ensuring his safety and well-being moving forward.
