SAD to not contest Punjab by elections, says 'don't want to be in conflict with Sri Akal Takht Sahib'

The decision was taken in working committee meeting saying that we don't want to be in conflict with Sri Akal Takht Sahib.

SAD to not contest Punjab by elections, says 'don't want to be in conflict with Sri Akal Takht Sahib'

 PTC News Desk: Shiromani Akali Dal has announced that it will not contest Punjab by elections. The decision was taken in the working committee meeting which lasted for about two hours. The elections are scheduled to take place in 4 constituencies i.e  Gidderbahara, Barnala, Dera Baba Nanak and Chabbewal. The voting for the by elections is scheduled on November 13. 

However the party will contest elections for the post of SGPC Chief. 


A delegation led by the working president Balwinder Singh Bhunder, spokesperson Arshdeep Singh Kler and former cabinet minister Dr. Daljeet Singh Cheema met Jathedar Giani Raghbir Singh at Sri Akal Takht Sahib to seek his approval to allow the party to contest the by polls. However Giani Raghbir Singh also clarified that Sukhbir cannot participate in public or political proceedings until formal punishment is announced and he complies with it. 

Following Sri Akal Takht Sahib's orders, the delegation with a consensus decided that the party will not contest by polls as the mere Objective was to contest elections under the leadership of Sukhbir Singh Badal
