Lok Sabha Polls 2024: Section 144 imposed in Jalandhar from May 30 to June 1

Section 144 in Jalandhar | In preparation for the upcoming Lok Sabha Elections on June 1, 2024, authorities have imposed Section 144  of the Criminal Procedure Code, 1973 hereby has declared that public meeting of more than 5 people is restricted for period of 48 hours i.e. from 06:00 PM on 30-05-2024 till conclusion of Poll on 01-06-2024 in jurisdiction of district Jalandhar. 

This measure, effective from May 30 to June 1, aims to maintain public order and ensure a peaceful election process.


The decision was taken to maintain the law and order and create a conducive environment for free and fair polling. It was necessary to ban unlawful assemblies and holding of public meetings during the period of 48 hours i.e. on 30-05-2024 from 06:00 PM till conclusion of Poll on 01-06-2024.

However it is clarified that this does not restrict house-to-house visits during 48 hours as the door-to-door campaigning can be done with a restricted group of 4 Persons only.

It is also clarified that all the political leaders, functionaries or Party workers who are not the registered voters of parliamentary constituency Jalandhar will have to vacate the constituency within this period i.e. on 30.05.2024 from 06:00 pm till end of poll on 01.06.2024.

In view of the emergent necessity of this order, it is being passed ex-party and addressed to the public in general. Commissioner of Police. Senior Superintendent of Police, Jalandhar and All Sub Divisional Magistrates shall ensure implementation of this order.

List of Constituencies for 2024 Elections includes - Gurdaspur, Amritsar, Khadoor Sahib, Jalandhar (SC), Hoshiarpur (SC), Anandpur Sahib, Ludhiana, Fatehgarh Sahib (SC), Faridkot (SC), Ferozepur, Bathinda, Sangrur, Patiala

The 2024 Indian general election in Punjab will be held on 1 June 2024 to elect 13 members of 18th Lok Sabha.
