SGPC jatha to depart for Pakistan on November 4 to attend Guru Nanak Dev Ji’s Parkash Purb celebrations
PTC Web Desk: A jatha (group) of Sikh devotees organised by the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) will leave for Pakistan on November 4, to participate in the celebrations marking the Parkash Purb (birth anniversary) of Sri Guru Nanak Dev Ji at Gurdwara Sri Nankana Sahib.
According to SGPC officials, passports of the pilgrims who have received visas will be distributed at the SGPC office on October 31 and November 1.
Each year, the SGPC sends a delegation of Sikh devotees to Pakistan to pay obeisance at various historic gurdwaras associated with the Sikh faith, especially on the occasion of Guru Nanak Dev Ji’s Parkash Purb. This year, the committee had submitted 1,802 passports to the Pakistan High Commission for visa approval, out of which 1,796 devotees have been granted visas.
The jatha will travel to Pakistan via the Wagah border and reach Gurdwara Sri Nankana Sahib, the birthplace of Guru Nanak Dev Ji, to participate in the main religious programmes. After attending the celebrations, the devotees will visit other prominent gurdwaras in Pakistan, including Gurdwara Panja Sahib and Gurdwara Dera Sahib, before returning to India on November 13.
