Tarn Taran bypoll 2025 Highlights: : Polling ends peacefully with 60.94% voter turnout; result on Nov 14
Akali candidate Principal Sukhwinder Kaur Randhawa’s daughter, Kanchanpreet Kaur, has accused the police administration of high-handedness.
She alleged that Akali leader Raj Kumar Rita was arrested at booths 145 and 146 in an attempt to create fear among voters.
Kanchanpreet claimed the ruling government is panicking after sensing defeat, and a complaint has been lodged with the Election Commission, demanding justice.
Voting for the Tarn Taran Assembly byelection is taking place today from 7 am to 6 pm. People are casting their votes peacefully across various polling stations.
SDM Tarn Taran Gurmeet Singh personally visited several polling booths since morning to review arrangements and ensure smooth conduct of voting.
He appealed to citizens to come forward and vote without fear or hesitation, saying that everyone should exercise their democratic right with full confidence.
At polling stations, voters are being politely reminded to keep their mobile phones outside before entering the booth to cast their votes.
In the Tarn Taran seat, the main contest is between Sukhwinder Kaur of the Shiromani Akali Dal, Harjit Singh Sandhu of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Harmeet Singh Sandhu of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), and Karambir Singh of the Congress. In addition, Waris Punjab De’s candidate Mandeep Singh could also cause a major upset. The Panthic vote is expected to play a crucial role in the Tarn Taran constituency.
The Tarn Taran Assembly seat fell vacant following the death of Aam Aadmi Party MLA Kashmir Singh Sohal in June.


PTC News Desk: All preparations have been completed for the Tarn Taran assembly bypoll, scheduled to be held on Tuesday. Officials said adequate security measures have been put in place to maintain law and order and ensure peaceful polling.
There are 15 candidates in all, with five being seen as strong contenders, thus setting the stage for a multi-cornered fight on this panthic seat.
The by-election was necessitated by the death of Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MLA Dr Kashmir Singh Sohal in June and is being viewed as an important political contest ahead of the 2027 Punjab Assembly elections.
On Monday evening, polling teams and election materials were dispatched from the International College of Nursing in Piddi village to their respective polling stations under the supervision of Returning Officer Gurmeet Singh.
