Teen dies by suicide in Punjab's Kapurthala after being blackmailed with obscene videos
PTC News Desk: A class 12 student died by suicide at her home in Punjab's Kapurthala by hanging herself from a ceiling fan, citing severe distress over love affair. No one was at home at the time of the incident.
Soon after receiving the information, police reached the spot and took the body into custody.
The family alleged that their daughter, Sarika, 18 was under distress and trauma after a man, Pawandeep trapped her into love affair and started pressurising her to get married and even blackmailed her with obscene videos. Tormented over the blackmailing and pressure, Sarika claimed her own life.
A case against the accused has been registered for abetment to suicide while raids are being conducted to arrest him.
According to the police, Rajkumar, a resident of Lahori Gate in Kapurthala, said his daughter Sarika studied in Class 12 at a government school. During this time, a youth named Pawandeep from Mansoorwal village befriended her and trapped her in a love relationship. He would frequently talk to her and meet her. During this period, he took some of her photos and recorded videos.
Rajkumar said that Pawandeep later started forcing Sarika to marry him. When she refused, he began threatening her over the phone. He told her that he possessed certain photos and videos that he would leak online to defame her.
Rajkumar said that when he found out about the situation, he talked to his daughter and then confronted Pawandeep. He told him that Sarika was still studying and did not understand such relationships. He requested that he stop troubling her.
Despite the warning, Pawandeep did not stop and continued blackmailing Sarika using the photos and videos, pressuring her to marry him. Sarika became mentally disturbed. On Tuesday evening, she returned from school. Rajkumar went out with his younger daughter, leaving Sarika alone at home. During this time, she hanged herself. When the family returned in the evening, they found her hanging.
The father said they immediately took her down and rushed her to the Civil Hospital, but it was too late. Doctors declared her brought dead. Later, Kapurthala police registered a case against Pawandeep. After the post-mortem, the body was handed over to the family for last rites.
