PTC Web Desk: In an inspiring story of grit and determination, three sisters from a humble family in Budhlada town of Punjab's Mansa district have cleared the University Grants Commission-National Eligibility Test (UGC-NET), overcoming financial hardships and social limitations.

Rimpi Kaur (28), Beant Kaur (26), and Hardeep Kaur (23), daughters of a granthi (Sikh priest) and a farm labourer, secured qualifying ranks in the UGC-NET examinations held in May 2025. The trio, hailing from one of the least literate regions in Punjab, appeared in different subjects and are now setting their sights on pursuing Junior Research Fellowships (JRFs) and doctoral studies.

“My elder sister wants to become a professor in computer science, while Hardeep and I are preparing for the JRF. We are confident we will succeed,” said Beant Kaur. She attributed their achievement to relentless hard work and a shared vision of escaping poverty through education.

Despite facing numerous challenges — including a modest household income and a brother battling health issues — the sisters remained focused on their academic goals. Hardeep, the youngest, has cleared UGC-NET twice and aims to pursue a JRF in Punjabi.

Their father, who serves as a granthi at a local gurdwara, said, “It’s their hard work and determination. I am immensely proud of what my daughters have achieved.” Their mother, Manjeet Kaur, works as a daily wager in the fields.

All three sisters worked in a private school to support their education. Now eligible to apply for assistant professorships, the trio also hopes to complete their PhDs together and serve as role models for other girls from rural backgrounds.
