Traffic restrictions announced in Chandigarh ahead of massive farmers’ protest at Sector 43 on Nov 26
PTC Web Desk: The Chandigarh Traffic Police has issued an advisory announcing major traffic restrictions on November 26 in view of a large-scale farmers’ protest scheduled to be held at the Dussehra Ground in Sector-43. The demonstration has been called by farmer unions under the banner of the Samyukta Kisan Morcha (SKM), with an anticipated gathering of nearly 10,000 participants from around 30 organisations.
According to the authorities, several key road stretches will remain diverted or restricted to ensure security and crowd management. The advisory states that traffic movement on Jan Marg will be diverted from Kajheri Chowk (Sector 42/43–52/53) to Sector 42/43 small chowk and up to Attawa Chowk (Sector 35/36/42/43).
Additionally, on Sector 43’s V-4 Road, traffic from Sector 43/44 light point to Judicial Academy Light Point will remain restricted up to Sector 42/43 small chowk. Commuters have been urged to use alternate routes and stay updated through official police social media handles on X (@trafficchd), Instagram (@trafficchd) and Facebook (@ChandigarhTrafficPolice).
Authorities warn that movement across the tricity, Chandigarh, Mohali and Panchkula, may experience delays due to the inflow of farmers.
To maintain law and order and manage public safety, a deployment of nearly 3,000 police personnel from Chandigarh and Mohali has been approved. Barricading, traffic checkpoints and movement monitoring have been placed around sensitive routes and the protest venue.
SSP Kanwardeep Kaur confirmed that necessary arrangements have been finalised.
The Chandigarh Police also appealed to residents to remain patient, follow diversions and comply with real-time alerts to avoid inconvenience.
