Punjab: Woman booked for assaulting female constable in Amritsar court complex
PTC Web Desk: The Amritsar police have booked a woman for allegedly manhandling and abusing a female constable inside the court complex. The incident took place on Friday, but legal action was taken after a detailed inquiry.
The accused has been identified as Daljit Kaur, alias Vicky, wife of Dildar Singh, a resident of Guru Nanakpura, Kot Khalsa, Amritsar. She has been booked under Sections 221, 132, 121(1), and 79 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) at the Civil Lines police station, Amritsar. The complaint was lodged by head constable Gurpreet Kaur.
According to ASI Hardial Singh, the woman had come to the court on Friday to meet her husband. However, when the police stopped her owing to security reasons, she allegedly started arguing. In the heated exchange, she grabbed the female constable’s collar, broke her nameplate, and engaged in physical assault.
Other police personnel and people present at the spot intervened, but to no avail. Meanwhile, a video of the incident went viral on social media the same day.
Taking note of the matter, the police conducted an inquiry and registered a case against the accused on Saturday.
Officials said that strict action would be taken to maintain law and order inside the court premises and to ensure the safety of on-duty personnel.
