Punjab Elections: Jagmohan Kang's son Yadvinder Singh to contest from Kharar as Independent

Chandigarh, January 29: Former Punjab minister Jagmohan Singh Kang, who left the Congress on late Friday evening, alleged that he had requested Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi to give him party ticket from Kharar constituency for the Punjab Assembly elections, but he gave it to his close aide. Addressing mediapersons on Saturday, he announced that his son Yadvinder Singh Kang would contest as an Independent from Kharar constituency.

"I asked CM Charanjit Singh Channi for a ticket from Kharar to contest the Punjab Assembly elections, but he opposed me and misled the high command. He has given the ticket from Kharar to his close aide," alleged Jagmohan Singh Kang. Tinku was the owner of a liquor shop and had criminal cases registered against him, Kang alleged. "I am sure that he (Channi) will charge crores of rupees for giving this ticket to the candidate," he added. "I have been voted to power three times and have been serving the Congress for more than 47 years, but CM Channi has deceived me," he added. He urged the Punjab electorate not to vote for Chief Minister Channi and described him as a "corrupted" leader. Kang challenged Channi and said, "I will request people here that they have voted me three times. Channi deceived me. I will visit door to door and request people not to vote for Channi." Jagmohan Singh Kang said, "CM Channi is opposing us out of professional jealousy." Notably, after the Congress released its second list of 23 candidates for the Punjab Assembly polls 2022, several aspirants, including former minister Jagmohan Singh Kang, sitting MLA Amrik Singh Dhillon, Daaman Bajwa and Satwinder Bitti, expressed their discontent over the denial of tickets. Jagmohan Kang, who wanted a ticket for himself from Kharar, has accused CM Charanjit Singh Channi of opposing his candidature. The Congress has announced that Vijay Sharma,  a liquor contractor, will contest from Kharar in Mohali. However, Jagmohan Kang on Saturday announced that his son Yadvinder Singh Kang would contest from Kharar as an Independent. -PTC News
