Punjab finds 455 accident-prone black spots, to take action on priority

Punjab road accidents: Officials of the Punjab Transport Department on Tuesday said a total of 455 accident-prone black spots across the state had been identified. Punjab Transport Minister Amarinder Singh Raja Warring has directed the officials concerned to take remedial steps on priority. According to the Director-General of Punjab State Road Safety Council (PSRSC), R Venkatratnam, a total of 391 black spots across 12 districts were identified in 2019, out of which 264 were on national highways. Of 264, remedial work has been taken out in 218 cases while the work was underway on the remaining 49, he said. He said the rectification process will begin after the department concerned recieved approval from the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways. Have directed the department to fast-track rectification of all accident black spots to save precious lives. Will review progress next week again."
