Punjab Govt 'serves' notice on DGP VK Bhawra; his leave also coming to end

Chandigarh, September 1: With the two-month leave of Punjab DGP VK Bhawra coming to an end, the tussle for the post is turning bitter. The AAP-led Punjab Government seems to be adopting all measures to ensure the continuation of Gaurav Yadav, who is currently acting DGP.

Since VK Bhawra has not extended his leave further, the Punjab Government is learnt to have served a show-cause notice on DGP VK Bhawra, for not taking "timely preventive measures on certain intelligence inputs”.

VK Bhawra had gone on leave on July 4 after singer Sidhu Moosewala's murder on May 29. Since Bhawra has not extended his leave, he is likely to resume office in a day or two . This would be a big embarrassment for for the Punjab Government, which has posted DGP Gaurav Yadav as the officiating DGP.

It is learnt the government is "upset" with poor handling of the RPG attack on the Punjab Police Intelligence Headquarters at Mohali on May 9 by  DGP Bhawra.

Bhawra was appointed by previous Cong govt 
VK Bhawra was appointed Punjab DGP by the previous Congress government. He continued on this post even after the formation of the Aam Aadmi Party-led government in Punjab. However, after the murder of Punjabi singer Sidhu Moosewala, there was acute pressure on front of law and order situation and he went on leave. He wanted to go on Central Deputation, but it was not possible. Now, he will return on September 4.
