Chandigarh, August 21: Small contractors of labour and transport have announced to stage a dharna against Congress on Monday as the leaders of the grand old party's Punjab unit are set to present themselves before the vigilance bureau.

Notably, during a joint press conference on Saturday, Punjab Congress president Amarinder Singh Raja Warring declared that the party's entire state leadership will appear before the vigilance bureau on Monday at 11 a.m., having grown tired of the daily barrage of allegations against its leaders. The Congress leaders also issued a stern warning to all those involved in the investigation, advising them to "beware of overstepping their brief as they will ultimately have to serve and stay in Punjab." Following this, the representatives of small contractors of labour and transport of Punjab's grain mandi gathered in Chandigarh Press Club on Sunday.

It was decided at the meeting that small contractors will also stage a dharna opposite Congress leadership, protesting against scams and frauds during its government.

Earlier, the representatives of small contractors of labour and transport had submitted a complaint to the VB against Congress leader and former Food and Civil Supplies Minister Bharat Bhushan Ashu over 'irregularities’ in grain-lifting tenders. Following this, the Punjab Vigilance Bureau (VB) arrested Ashu for alleged irregularities to the tune of “Rs 2,000 crore in allotment of labour and transport tenders for lifting grains” and the investigation is underway on Punjab CM Bhagwant Mann's order.
