Punjab crime: Youth murdered in Patiala’s Ranjit Nagar, old rivalry suspected; CCTV footage surfaces
PTC Web Desk: A youth was allegedly killed in Patiala’s Ranjit Nagar area under Tripuri police station limits. The police have started an investigation and are working to identify and arrest those allegedly involved in the attack.
DSP City-2, Jangjit Singh, said the preliminary investigation points towards an old dispute between the victim and some other youths. According to the police, the disagreement reportedly dates back nearly two years, when the youths were still studying in school.
The DSP said the matter resurfaced on the day of the incident after a group of youngsters were sitting together and reportedly went live on Snapchat. An argument allegedly broke out over the old issue, which later escalated into a violent confrontation.

The police said teams have been formed to establish the identities of those involved and take them into custody. Officials added that all aspects of the case are being examined to determine exactly what led to the fatal attack.
The victim’s father, Rajiv Kumar, alleged that several youths were fighting when he went to intervene and try to stop the quarrel. He said his son followed him during the incident, after which the attackers allegedly stabbed him with a knife.
According to the victim’s father, around 10 to 12 youths were present during the altercation, and he claimed to know some of them. The family has urged the police to take strict action against those responsible and make arrests at the earliest.
Meanwhile, CCTV footage reportedly showing part of the incident has surfaced and is circulating on social media. The police are examining the footage along with other evidence.
A case has been registered.
