Failed to wipe out drugs from Punjab: Kultar Sandhwan's big admission amid AAP govt's 'Yudh Nasheyan Virudh' campaign
PTC News Desk: The drug menace in Punjab has been on the centre stage ever since Aam Aadmi Party came into power in 2022. The problem has been one of the state's deepest wounds, which has affected families, destroyed futures, wiped out entire family.
With a promise to eliminate drugs from the state, the AAP-led Punjab Government launched a campaign 'Yush Nasheyan Virudh' to deal with the crisis.

However the campaign seems to be dwindling ahead of the next Assembly elections in 2027 with Punjab Assembly Speaker Kultar Singh Sandhwan admitting that the AAP Government failed to completely eliminate the drug menace from the state, despite making it a fundamental promise.
Sandhwan's admission comes months before the 2027 Punjab Assembly elections, with opposition parties regularly attacking the ruling AAP government over its failure to control the drug problem.
A video from the public gathering in Kotkapura, Kultar Singh Sandhwan can reportedly be heard telling people that the government may have been successful in fulfilling all his guarantees but failed to fulfill the promise of eliminating 'chitta' from Punjab.
Sandhwan during the gathering admitted that the drug menace still persists in the state on large scale. He also claimed that no AAP councillor, MLA, minister or other party leader now helps people involved in the drug trade.
Warning to those helping drug accused get bail
Sandhwan also criticised people who help those accused in drug cases obtain bail. He appealed to people not to arrange bail for individuals involved in the drug trade. He warned that if such support continues, the names of those helping accused persons secure bail would be obtained and displayed publicly at prominent places to expose them before the public.
SAD slams Punjab Government
Meanwhile Shiromani Akali Dal chief spokesperson Arshdeep Singh Kler said the Speaker should not only publicly admit that the govt failed to wipe out drugs from the state but should also acknowledge that it facilitates.
He further said that during its tenure, the AAP-led Punjab Government politicised the sensitive drug issue while the youth was falling prey to the crisis.
