Punjab Police brings back gangster Amrit Dalam from Moldova in first extradition from European country
PTC Web Desk: In a significant move against organised crime, the Punjab Police have brought back fugitive gangster Amrit Dalam from the Republic of Moldova in coordination with central agencies and international law enforcement partners.
Amrit Dalam is believed to be a close aide of A-category gangster Jaggu Bhagwanpuria. He is wanted in connection with seven murder cases and several cases of attempt to murder, Punjab DGP Gaurav Yadav said.
The police said cases against Dalam have also been registered under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA), Arms Act, Explosives Act and NDPS Act.
The extradition operation was carried out by a four-member team of the Anti-Gangster Task Force (AGTF) led by SP Bikramjit Singh Brar. Inspector Pushwinder Singh, Sub-Inspector Jaspreet Singh and ASI Varinder Kumar were part of the team.
The team stayed in Moldova for around seven days, where it held meetings with local authorities and completed the required legal formalities before bringing the accused back to India.

Dalam was transported through a transit route via Baku, Azerbaijan, before the team reached the Indira Gandhi International Airport in New Delhi on Friday morning.
Punjab Police officials described the operation as a major achievement, calling it the first successful extradition of a fugitive from a European country by the force.
