SAD leader Bikram Singh Majithia gets Z-plus security in Patiala Central Jail

Chandigarh, March 25:

Senior Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) leader Bikram Singh Majithia, who is currently lodged in Punjab's Patiala Central Jail in drugs case, has been provided Z-plus security by the jail administration.

Shivraj Singh Nandgarh, Jail Superintendent, Patiala Central Jail, said he had received a letter stating that SAD Bikram Singh Majithia was facing threat inside the jail, after which Z-plus security had been provided to him.

Notably, on March 20, Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann ordered the reconstitution of the Special Investigation Team (SIT) probing the drug case against SAD leader and former minister Bikram Singh Majithia.

IGP, Crime Branch, Gursharan Singh Sandhu will supervise the working of the four-member team headed by AIG Dr Rahul S. The other team members are AIG Ranjit Singh and DSPs Raghbir Singh and Amanpreet Singh.

He was earlier remanded in judicial custody till March 8 after he surrendered before a Mohali court in connection with a drugs case

.

Speaking to mediaperons, Bikram Singh Majithia had stated that as per the orders of the Supreme Court, he had appeared before the Mohali court.

While the SC had granted Majithia protection from arrest till February 23, it had also directed him to surrender in the court after February 20 Assembly elections in Punjab.
