Satish Dhawan satellite to carry Bhagavad Gita, PM Modi’s photo into space

A copy of the mythological book, Bhagavad Gita, a photograph of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, and the names of 25,000 individuals will be taken to space by the Satish Dhawan Satellite, or SD SAT, developed by SpaceKidz India. The satellite will be launched at the end of the month by the polar satellite launch vehicle (PSLV). Satish Dhawan Satellite, the nanosatellite developed by SpaceKidz India, will also carry three scientific payloads. These include studying space radiation, studying magnetosphere. Another payload will demonstrate a low-power wide-area communication network. Dr Srimathy Kesan, founder and CEO of SpaceKidz India, said that "there was a lot of excitement in the group as our would be the first satellite to be deployed in space." When the mission was finalised, they asked people to send in their names that will be sent to space and 25,000 entries were received within a week. These include 1,000 names by people from outside India. A school in Chennai sent in the names of everyone while the SpaceKidz decided to do this to spark interest of the people in the mission. Those who sent in their names have been given a “boarding pass”. She further said that they decided to send a copy of the Bhagavad Gita to space as several other space missions carried holy books such as the Bible.
