Asian Games 2023: Kiran Baliyan secures India's first athletics medal, propelling nation to fourth in medal standings

Asian Games 2023: Day 6 of the Asian Games began with Vikash Singh and Priyanka representing India in the men's and women's 20km race walk, finishing 5th and 6th respectively. The Indian shooting team, comprised of Palak, Esha Singh, and Divya Thadigol, clinched silver in the 10m air pistol women's team event. Palak and Esha also shone in the women's 10 air pistol final, securing gold and silver medals.

Furthermore, the Indian contingent, including Aishwary Pratap Singh Tomar, Swapnil Suresh Kusale, and Akhil Sheoran, secured gold in the men's 50m air rifle 3P team event, with Aishwary Pratap Singh Tomar grabbing silver in the men's 50m rifle 3P event.


In tennis, Saketh Myneni and Ramkumar Ramanathan secured silver in their men's doubles final, while Rohan Bopanna and Rutuja Bhosale triumphed in their mixed doubles semi-final.

Athletics took center stage with India hoping for success in the women's hammer throw final, featuring Rachna Kumari and Tanya Chaudhary, and the women's shot put event, in which Kiran Baliyan won bronze and Manpreet Kaur secured fifth place.

India's medal tally at this point stands at 8 gold, 12 silver, and 13 bronze medals.

In other events, India's boxer Nikhat Zareen advanced to the women's 50kg quarterfinals, and the Indian women's hockey team faced Malaysia. The nation's athletes continued their spirited efforts to secure more medals as the games progressed.

As the Asian Games 2023 unfolds, India's rising prominence on the medal tally serves as a testament to the dedication and talent of its athletes across various disciplines.
