From silver screen to cricket pitch: Preity Zinta's journey echoes resilience, perseverance

PTC News Desk: Earlier known for her presence on silver screen, Bollywood fame Preity Zinta is also celebrated for her association with cricket as the co-owner of IPL Mohali franchise Punjab Kings. Her love and determination for the game goes beyond the ownership. 


The Mohali franchise which is chasing for its maiden title has been part of the tournament since its inception. Though her team has never won the title, it has not dampened the actress' energy and enthusiasm one bit.

Preity Zinta is often seen closely interacting with fans in the stadium and also talking tot he broadcasters after the matches. Her unwavering support for the team regardless of victory or loss has garnered attention besides her position as co-owner of the franchise which has earned her significant prominence in the IPL circle. Her involvment in the IPL has drawn her into the spotlights one of the prominent female franchise owners in the league.

As Preity took on less work on film front, she shifted her focus on IPL with assuming the position of co-owner of Punjab Kings. The actor spoke about her decision to turn team owner in the IPL. "When you reach a place of stagnation, you move to another zone. I had worked with the best of filmmakers, producers weren't giving me earthy or rural roles. And I did not want to be limited to NRI, bubble-gum-babe roles. So I thought, now what?"

She added, "That's when the idea of a cricket club came to me. At the time, it meant an investment of five million dollars which I thought I could do. Once I bought the team, I went to Harvard Business School. I did everything I could to learn this business and then I got obsessed with IPL!" 

On the film front, Preity Zinta is set to return to the big screen with Rajkumar Santoshi's Lahore 1947 after a seven-year hiatus.
