Mohammed Siraj breaks into ICC Test top 15 after heroic performance in Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy
PTC Web Desk: Mohammed Siraj has achieved a major career milestone by entering the top 15 of the ICC Men’s Test Bowling Rankings for the first time, following his outstanding performance in the recently concluded Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy. The Indian pacer surged 12 positions to claim the 15th spot in the latest rankings released on August 6, 2025.
Siraj, who was named Player of the Match in India’s dramatic win at The Oval, played a crucial role in leveling the five-match series against England. With regular spearhead Jasprit Bumrah rested and released before the fifth Test, Siraj led the bowling attack with remarkable resilience and accuracy. He bagged nine wickets in the final Test, including a sensational five-wicket haul in the second innings, helping India defend a challenging target of 374 runs.
Throughout the series, the 30-year-old pacer showcased immense stamina and consistency. He bowled a total of 185.2 overs—more than any other bowler in the series—and claimed 23 wickets, emerging as the highest wicket-taker across both sides. On the final day at The Oval, with England needing just seven runs to win, Siraj produced a lethal yorker to dismiss Gus Atkinson, sealing a thrilling Indian victory.
Siraj now joins Jasprit Bumrah as one of two Indian bowlers in the ICC Test top 15. Bumrah continues to dominate the rankings at No. 1, holding 889 points, 38 ahead of second-placed Kagiso Rabada. Despite playing only three Tests in the series, Bumrah managed to take 14 wickets, including two five-wicket hauls.
India’s fast-bowling depth was further highlighted by Prasidh Krishna’s rise in the rankings. The Karnataka pacer jumped 25 spots to reach No. 59 after claiming eight wickets in the Oval Test and finishing with 14 wickets in the series. Though he struggled with consistency at times, Krishna delivered in crucial moments, forming a potent partnership with Siraj.
England's bowlers also made ranking gains. Gus Atkinson broke into the top 10 for the first time in his career, now tied at No. 10 with Australia’s Mitchell Starc on 766 points. Josh Tongue climbed 14 places to reach the 46th position after taking eight wickets in the final Test.
