'One last time': Rohit Sharma's social media post sparks retirement speculations
PTC News Desk: Rohit Sharma has wrapped up his stint in Australia and is returning to India after an impressive performance in the ODI series. Making his comeback to international cricket for the first time since the Champions Trophy earlier this year, Rohit notched up both a century and a fifty across the three-match series, playing a key role in India’s victory in the final game.
In what was his last appearance in Australia, the 38-year-old finished as the Player of the Series, amassing 202 runs in three matches at an outstanding average of 101. Sharing an update on Instagram, Rohit posted a picture of himself travelling home with the caption:
“One last time, signing off from Sydney.”
Over the course of his career in Australia, Rohit played 33 matches and accumulated 1,530 runs at an average of 56.66, including six centuries and five fifties. He concluded his Australian journey in style, scoring an unbeaten 121 in Sydney to lead India to a commanding nine-wicket win.
Speaking after the game, Rohit said he always enjoyed playing cricket in Australia and it was a nice way to finish off with the win.
“I have always enjoyed playing cricket here in Australia. I have fond memories of 2008, and it is a nice way to finish, getting that talk, getting that win, and feeling that connection again. I don’t know if we will be coming back to Australia, but it has been a lot of fun over all these years that we have played here. Thank you, Australia,” said Rohit.
