Rohit Sharma receives multiple fines for speeding ahead of India vs. Bangladesh World Cup clash: Report

Chandigarh, October 19: The captain of the Indian cricket team, Rohit Sharma, has reportedly received several traffic fines for reckless driving on the Mumbai-Pune Expressway. According to the Pune Mirror, Rohit was en-route to Pune to join his fellow Indian cricketers ahead of the World Cup 2023 match against Bangladesh when he was issued three online traffic fines for speeding.

The report revealed that Rohit was driving at dangerously high speeds, reaching up to 200 km/h, and at one point, his Lamborghini even touched 215 km/h. These excessive speeds raised concerns among traffic officials. Although the exact date of Rohit's speeding incident is not mentioned, it likely occurred between Monday and Tuesday.

Rohit Sharma and the rest of the Indian cricket squad arrived in Pune on Sunday. It is possible that Rohit decided to spend a day with his family in Mumbai, as Monday was a rest day for the Indian cricketers. They resumed practice on Tuesday evening in preparation for their World Cup match at the MCA Stadium scheduled for Thursday.

Rohit has been in outstanding form during this World Cup. His impressive performances against Afghanistan, where he scored 131 runs, and his commanding 86 off 63 balls against arch-rivals Pakistan have propelled him to sixth place in the ICC ODI batters' ranking.

The aggressive right-handed batsman aims to maintain his excellent form against Bangladesh, a team that has defeated India three times in their last four ODIs. These losses occurred twice in a bilateral series in December 2022 and once in the Asia Cup Super Four match.

In this tournament, underdog teams have already demonstrated their ability to upset the favorites. England and South Africa experienced shock losses to Afghanistan and the Netherlands, respectively. India will undoubtedly seek to avoid such a scenario and continue their successful run in the World Cup. Winning the match against Bangladesh would secure India's fourth consecutive victory and enhance their chances of reclaiming the top spot, currently held by New Zealand with 8 points.
