Women’s World Boxing C'ship: Nitu Ghanghas wins gold in finals of 48 Kg
Women's World Boxing Championships final: Nitu Ghanghas beat Mongolia's Lutsaikhan Altantsetseg in the 45-48 kg category finals on Saturday at the Women's World Boxing Championships in New Delhi. The two-time World Youth champion maintained her strong form to beat the Mongolian, who is also a two-time Asian Championships bronze medalist.
Nitu began the first round on an attacking note and maintained the upper hand throughout the three minutes. Her command was so strong that all five judges ruled in her favour.
The Mongolian responded strongly in the second round, as Nitu lost balance on several occasions. Nitu, on the other hand, kept her cool and responded with some powerful jabs to win round 3:2.
Nitu's intent stayed consistent throughout the last round. Nitu maintained her aggressive approach despite being given a yellow card right away. Her opponent was dealt the same card moments later as she attempted to fight her way into the contest.
Despite her powerful run, the Indian was declared the winner, earning India its first gold medal at the championship.
