World Cup 2023, IND vs PAK match: Over 11,000 security personnel to be deployed in Ahmedabad on Oct 14

World Cup 2023, IND vs PAK match: Over 11,000 personnel from various agencies including Gujarat Police, NSG, RAF and home guards and others will be deployed in Ahmedabad and at Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad during the much-awaited India-Pakistan World Cup cricket match on October 14, a top official said on Monday.

He stated that high-level security preparations were put in place following threats.

Even though there has never been communal violence during a cricket match in Ahmedabad in the last 20 years, security personnel would be posted in various communally sensitive areas as a preventive measure, according to Ahmedabad Commissioner of Police G S Malik.

Earlier in the day, Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel met in Gandhinagar with Minister of State for Home Harsh Sanghavi, state DGP Vikas Sahay, G S Malik, and other senior police officers to review the police's action plan to ensure the high-profile sports event goes off without a hitch.

In an evening press conference, Malik stated that the chief minister had reviewed security arrangements and asked the police to make all necessary efforts to ensure that no untoward incident occurs during the match.

Malik stated that elaborate security precautions have been taken in light of factors such as the movement of over 1 lakh fans at the stadium and a recent threat sent by unidentified persons via email.

"Along with more than 7,000 police personnel, we will deploy nearly 4,000 home guards to secure the stadium and to maintain law and order in communally sensitive areas of the city during the match. In addition to these personnel, we will deploy three 'hit teams' and one anti-drone team of the NSG. Nine teams of our bomb detection and disposal squad will also be utilised," he added.

Teams from the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) and the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) will also be stationed in the city to respond to any chemical, biological, radiological, and nuclear (CBRN) incidents during the match, he said.
