World Cup 2023: Shubman Gill returns to Ahmedabad, but uncertainty looms over India vs Pakistan clash
Ahmedabad (Gujarat): Star Indian opener Shubman Gill has arrived in Ahmedabad after recovering from dengue fever. However, his participation in the highly anticipated ODI World Cup match against Pakistan on Saturday remains uncertain.
Previously, the 24-year-old Indian opener was receiving treatment for dengue in Chennai, preventing his involvement in India's initial two matches against Australia and Afghanistan. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) had confirmed his absence from these matches and stated that he would remain in Chennai under medical supervision.
Although Gill is now in Ahmedabad, the BCCI has not confirmed his inclusion in the starting eleven for the upcoming match.
In India's previous match against Afghanistan, they secured an 8-wicket victory. Afghanistan skipper Hashmatullah Shahidi played a remarkable 80-run innings, and Afghani bowling all-rounder Azmatullah Omarzai contributed 62 runs. Indian pacer Jasprit Bumrah was instrumental, taking four wickets.
India's top four batsmen delivered a strong performance in the run chase. Captain Rohit Sharma led the way with a stunning 131 runs, earning him the Player of the Match title. Ishan Kishan, who replaced Gill in the opening position, scored 47 runs, and Virat Kohli contributed 55 runs.
Rohit Sharma's India will face Pakistan in their upcoming ODI World Cup 2023 match at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Saturday.
