Colombo (Sri Lanka), May 29: Amid a power crisis, Sri Lankan Minister of Power and Energy, Kanchana Wijesekera on Sunday stated that an accelerated renewable energy generation plan is likely to be implemented from June 1. The decision to immediately implement the plan was decided after a discussion at the Ministry of Power and Energy after the fuel bill for power generation crossed USD 100 million per month, according to Colombo Page. So far, two measures have been implemented under the Renewable Energy Generation Plan to implement the solutions. Roof space is being sought in order to place solar panels on industrial, government, hospital, and hotel roofs. Furthermore, the Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) would manage the thermal and hydroelectric plants to help reduce generation costs at night while still saving money during the day, according to Colombo Page.
