Stubble burning: Punjab reports 22 farm fires in last four days

Chandigarh, September 19: Stubble burning: As per the reports by the Punjab Remote Sensing Centre (PRSC), Punjab reported 22 paddy burning incidents which took place in last four days. As per the reports, 21 paddy burning incidents were reported in the Majha region of the state and one fire was registered in Mohali. Notably, Punjab Remote Sensing Centre (PRSC), started recording the data of farm fires from September 15. The majority of farmers burn the leftovers because it is an efficient and affordable approach to prepare the fields for the rabi season wheat crop planting, for which the window is frequently very little. As a result, dangerously high levels of air pollution are reported in Delhi and its surroundings. To monitor stubble burning, the Punjabi government deputed 10,000 personnel and officials to the region. PPCB chairman Adarshpal Vig said the data on paddy straw burning has been shared with the district officials concerned. The state government had proposed to give Rs 2,500 per acre to paddy growers and suggested that the Centre should pay Rs 1,500 per acre while Rs 1,000 per acre will be borne by Punjab and Delhi governments. Notably, Punjab is facing severe financial crisis and under the alternative plan, Delhi and Punjab have joined hands to use Pusa bio-decomposer – a microbial solution that can decompose paddy straw in 15 to 20 days – on 5,000 acres of land in the agrarian state to prevent stubble burning, which is a major cause of air pollution. -PTC News
