Tension in Patiala; DC issues appeal for peace

Patiala, April 29: The situation in Punjab's Patiala remains critical as a clash broke out between two groups. According to reports, a scuffle broke out between the Hindu and Sikh groups as the former chanted 'Khalistan Murdabad' slogans to which the latter objected. Police, on the other hand, are urging Sikh groups to maintain peace in the area. The police administration had already taken strong measures to keep the situation under control. Meanwhile, Patiala DC Sakshi Sawhney has urged people to maintain peace and harmony in the area. Even if there is any dispute or misunderstanding, it is important to resolve it by dialogue," she said. "The district administration appeals to all brothers and sisters of Patiala and Punjab to continue to maintain peace and brotherhood," the DC. She further informed that the current situation is under control and being continuously monitored. All measures are being taken to ensure peace and harmony. Sawhney further urged people not to fall prey to unsubstantiated news and/or social media forwards and return to their respective homes and places of stay.
