CBI registers FIR for alleged visa fraud in Europe immigration attempt
New Delhi, July 04: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has initiated legal action against four individuals, including the parents of a minor boy, for their alleged involvement in procuring two passports and attempting to facilitate the minor's immigration to a European country. The FIR was registered on June 28, 2023, and subsequent searches were conducted at the suspects' locations in Delhi and Punjab, according to officials.
The fraud came to light when the French Embassy detected "identity theft" during the processing of a visa application. It was discovered that the same biometric details had been used on a different passport number, which was linked to a rejected visa application for Spain.
The CBI's FIR accuses Simal Singh and his wife Manjit Kaur of obtaining a passport with the number 'U2486935' for their minor son from Jalandhar on January 20, 2020. Later, they allegedly conspired with Kirpal Singh Notay and his wife Suresh Kumari Notay, residents of Tilak Nagar in Delhi, to obtain another passport for their son.
The CBI states in the FIR that Simal Singh and Manjit Kaur created a fake birth certificate under the name of Sarvjit Singh Notay, falsely representing him as the child of the Notay couple. The certificate included a photograph of their minor son affixed to it. As a result, the parents managed to acquire two passports for their son: one issued by RPO Jalandhar and another by RPO New Delhi.
In their pursuit of the conspiracy, the accused applied for a visa to Spain for their son using the passport issued by RPO New Delhi. However, the visa application was rejected on March 22, 2022. They made a second attempt on May 11, 2022, which also resulted in rejection.
In a desperate bid to achieve their goal of reaching European shores, the parents then tried their luck at the French Embassy, utilising the passport issued by RPO Jalandhar. However, their plans were thwarted on December 12, 2022, when the biometrics matched those of the previously rejected Spain visa application, which had been submitted with a counterfeit passport.
The CBI's investigation aims to uncover the full extent of the alleged visa fraud and bring the perpetrators to justice.
