Fire incident in Delhi's Shakarpur claims one life, forces rescues through windows
New Delhi, November 14: In a devastating incident in the Laxmi Nagar area of east Delhi's Shakarpur, a fire erupted in a four-storey residential building with a parking facility, resulting in one fatality and injuries to 10 individuals. The Delhi Fire Services (DFS) director, Atul Garg, reported that the DFS personnel successfully rescued 26 people, while five others were compelled to jump from a balcony to escape the raging flames.
The distressing incident unfolded around 1 am when the fire department received a distress call about the blaze. The fire, which originated in the parking area of the building, led to the trapping of at least 31 people. Responding promptly, the DFS dispatched three fire tenders initially, but the scale of the emergency prompted the deployment of five additional tenders to rescue more individuals.
Out of the trapped residents, ten were rushed to medical facilities, including Guru Teg Bahadur (GTB) Hospital, Lal Bahadur Shastri (LBS) Hospital, and Hedgewar Hospital. Tragically, a 40-year-old woman lost her life in the incident, and one DFS personnel, identified as Samay Singh, sustained injuries due to a breathing problem and was promptly taken to LBS Hospital.
The total count of rescued individuals amounted to 26, including two pets. The fire department's rapid response, involving a total of eight fire tenders on the scene, played a crucial role in managing the emergency and preventing further casualties. Investigations into the cause of the fire are underway as the community grapples with the aftermath of this tragic incident.
